The Riester Vaginal Specula is used during gynaecological examinations to gently widen the opening of the vagina to allow improved visualization and access to the cervix during a pelvic exam. They are regularly used during Pap smear tests or HPV tests during which a small swab is used to take a sample of the cells from the cervix as well as looking for any signs of irritation, redness, sores and swelling.
The specula is designed to allow the best possible comfort for the patient while the above examinations are taking place. There are two different designs, Graeve and Cusco, with different sizes to ensure the best possible solution for each examination.
